A person is not fully educated, or indeed ‘religious,’ unless they are intimately aware of more than their own faith and ways of prayer.

–Brother Wayne Teasdale

One River, Many Wells

The U.S. is the most religiously diverse country on earth. Islamic mosques, Hindu shrines and Buddhist meditation centers are increasingly common and many of us are partnered with people of other faiths and cultures. Yet, we live in a time of religious division marked by confusion and assumptions.

What if we could take a small step towards a more peaceable “kin-dom” by taking time out of our lives to explore religion deeply–from the inside out and the outside in? What if, through spiritual practice, we could experience the One Well which feeds and informs the Many Rivers?

Format:

~Excerpts from film and the vibrant public-radio series “Speaking of Faith” –extraordinary
~Broadcasts representing the world’s diverse religious communities.
~Opportunities to experience and discuss representative practices from diverse traditions, particularly those which complement      the practice of our own.
~Exploration of the difference between religion and spirituality.
~Reflection on James Fowler’s “Stages of Faith” and on our own movement through them.
~Optional visits to local mosques, temples, churches and centers.
~Practice of mindfulness meditation, movement meditation, and compassion meditation; sharing of poetry and music.
~Reflection on our own awakenings and unfolding spiritual journeys through exercises in self-awareness/inner inquiry
~Experiences of community and deepening relationships with one another.
